Upgrade to subscription
Allow customers to switch cart items from one-time purchase to subscription
For stores that offer subscriptions, this feature is especially valuable. It allows customers to change a cart item from a one-time purchase to a subscription—including selecting the subscription interval—without leaving the cart drawer or cart page.
This selector appears at the right moment in the buying journey. Customers often add products as a one-time purchase initially, but when presented with the option to upgrade to a subscription directly in the cart, they can easily change their mind without friction.
By reducing extra steps, this feature helps increase subscription adoption while keeping the checkout flow smooth.

Configuration
This feature does not require any advanced setup. You can simply enable or disable it based on your needs.
However, please note that subscriptions must already be set up for your products using a subscription app. You can use:
Shopify’s official Subscriptions app
Any third-party subscription app of your choice
Important notes
The Upgrade to subscription selector only appears for products that have subscriptions enabled
It will not be shown for products without a subscription option
You can enable or disable this feature from the Cart items block settings (as shown in the screenshot below)
