Cart upsells
A feature that allows you to suggest additional products to customers during checkout, helping increase average order value (AOV)
The Cart Upsells feature is one of the most popular and strongly recommended ways to get more value from your Shopify store. It appears immediately after the cart items, making it a natural and non-intrusive place to suggest additional products without creating friction for customers. Almost all stores can benefit from using this feature, as it is one of the most proven methods to increase sales.
1. Add the block
When installing the theme, the Cart upsells block is usually enabled by default.
If the block is not visible:
Open the Cart drawer (or the main Cart) section in the theme editor.
Add the Cart upsells block, as shown in the screenshot above.
Once added, you can start adjusting the block’s settings.
2. Configure it
The block settings are simple and focused. The most important setting is the Collection, which allows you to choose the collection from which upsell products will be displayed. The order of products in the upsells block follows the same order as defined in the selected collection.
NOTE: If a product is already added to the cart, it will not be shown again in the upsells block.
Another important setting, planned for release soon, is the ability to source upsell products using product metafields instead of a collection. With this approach, upsell products will be displayed dynamically based on the products already in the cart. This logic may be more suitable for certain stores that require more contextual or personalized recommendations.
3. Verify the results
Open your storefront and access either the cart drawer or the cart page, depending on how your cart behavior is configured. You should now see the Cart Upsells block displayed below the cart items, or in the position you selected, since cart blocks can be reordered.
If the upsells block is not appearing, the most common reasons are:
No collection has been selected, as described in Step 2.
The selected collection does not contain any products.
