Validate discount codes directly in the cart

Recently, Shopify introduced the ability to validate discount codes directly in the cart drawer or cart page. Previously, this was only possible during checkout or by installing a third-party app.

With this update, customers can now enter and validate discount codes before reaching checkout, directly within the theme. This improves the shopping experience by giving instant feedback and reducing friction during the purchase process.

By enabling the discount form in the cart, your customers can:

• Apply discount codes earlier in the buying journey

• Instantly see whether a discount code is valid

• Proceed to checkout with confidence, knowing their discount is already applied

This functionality is built directly into the theme and does not require any external apps.

Configuration

Like other cart blocks, the Discount form block is enabled by default in either the Cart Drawer section or the Cart Page main section. If it’s not visible, you can add it by clicking the plus (+) icon within the section.

This block does not include any specific settings that require further explanation. You can:

• Change the block title from the section settings

• Edit the input/button label from the Default theme content settings

As with all cart blocks, you can also adjust its position by reordering the cart blocks list on the left side of the section editor.
